The narrative revolves around the Bangtan universe, a fictional world created by Bighit. The storyline is not based on real-life events and is gathered from various sources including the "save me" webtoon, music videos, and clips.
The story begins with the boys first meeting in school and becoming close friends. They create a hideout in a storage room where they share happy moments. However, their lives take a turn when Namjoon moves to the countryside due to financial struggles. This event is marked by a letter written on the window of their hideout, reading "We must survive".
The boys' lives continue to unravel as they face various hardships. Namjoon struggles with poverty and pressure, Taehyung deals with abuse from his stepbrother, Yoongi's house catches fire, and Jungkook's family falls apart.
The story then takes a turn when Seokjin and Jimin are at the bus stop and Jimin has a seizure. Jimin's mother turns him away, and Hoseok develops narcolepsy, possibly due to a disorder called Munchausen syndrome.
The story progresses with each boy facing their own struggles. Namjoon moves to a container, Seokjin transfers to a school in Los Angeles, Taehyung is convicted of murder, Yoongi burns himself in a motel, Hoseok falls down and hits his head while walking on a bridge, and Jimin tries to drown himself in the bathtub at the hospital.
Seokjin discovers that he can travel back in time and tries to save each of the boys. However, each time he travels back in time, a few things change due to the butterfly effect. Seokjin finally realizes that he can't save everyone on his own.
The story concludes with the boys meeting up for the yearly fireworks on August 30, Year 22. Seokjin is searching for "the map of the soul" and finds a notebook in the chained cabinet in their old hideout. The notebook is the diary of Seokjin's father, raising questions about whether Seokjin's father also had the ability to travel back in time.

11. Jungkook would go to their secret hideout every day in hopes of one day seeing them all gather together again.
12. Namjoon left for the countryside without telling anyone but ends up coming back after over a year and lives in a container.
13. Seokjin transferred to a school in Los Angeles without a word.
14. Taehyung's whereabouts were always unknown.
15. Yoongi never showed up after being expelled from school.
16. Jimin never came back to school after going to the hospital.
17. Hoseok was now working a part-time job at a burger joint.
18. Seokjin finally came back to Korea after 2 years and 10 months.
19. He discovered that he's been going back in time.
20. He began to find out how each of the boys get in trouble and how they die.
21. But every time he traveled back in time a few things would change and that's because of the butterfly effect.
22. On April 11, Year 22, Namjoon gets into a fight with a customer of the gas station.
23. Jungkook falls off the building of a construction site and dies.
24. Yoongi burns himself in a motel or hotel.
25. Hoseok falls down and hits his head while walking on a bridge.
26. Jimin tries to drown himself in the bathtub at the hospital.
27. Taehyung murders his father and goes to jail.
28. Seokjin discovered all these events one at a time, after multiple failures, multiple attempts.
29. He finally gathered everyone together at Namjoon's container place.
30. Seokjin decides to keep a distance from the other boys and leave hints and clues behind for them to find.
31. Seokjin goes to the gas station to save Namjoon.
32. Hoseok ends up contacting all the boys to invite them over to Namjoon's container house.
33. In order to save Yoongi, Seokjin uses Jungkook.
34. Seokjin lets Hoseok fall from the bridge, so Jimin can meet Hoseok.
35. Seokjin uses Hoseok to save Taehyung.
36. Taehyung ends up interrupting Seokjin by saying, "Seokjin, is that all? Aren't you hiding something from us?"
37. Seokjin punches him and a fight breaks out.
38. Seokjin must have went back into the past again.
39. Hoseok was the first person who heard about Jungkook's car accident.
40. Taehyung rushed to the hospital but when he got there, he heard Namjoon and Seokjin talking and he couldn't bring himself to go in.
41. Jungkook went outside with the girl he met at the hospital.
42. Yoongi went crazy, he made it to the hospital, but he couldn't bring himself to go in.
43. Jimin ends up going back home after they returned from the beach.
44. After he ran away from the hospital he lived with Hoseok.
