"Trick 'r Treat" is a 2007 horror movie directed by Michael Dougherty. The film is a series of intertwining vignettes set on Halloween night in the fictional town of Warren Valley, Ohio. The stories are loosely connected by the burlap sacked kid-sized entity Sam, who intervenes when he sees the spirit of Halloween being rejected. The movie is a sincere exploration of various Halloween traditions and has a high kill count.
The movie begins with a grumpy robot, Emma, who is complaining about Halloween. She blows out a jack-o'-lantern and takes off her robot costume. This attracts the attention of a ghost who knocks her out and slits her throat. This marks Emma's first kill of the movie.
The film then moves to a news report about the town's over-the-top Halloween celebrations. The story then shifts to Danielle, a 22-year-old virgin. She reluctantly agrees to leave Laurie behind to find a date in the streets of a crazy Halloween party. Meanwhile, Charlie, a kid from Bad Santa, is caught stealing candy from a porch and is poisoned by the owner, Principal Steven Wilkins. This marks Charlie's second kill of the movie.
The film then moves to the trick-or-treaters, Macy, Sara, and Chip, who are trick-or-treating at another teacher’s home. They interrupt a swinger-looking party and are led by Macy to a cliff overlooking a rock quarry where she tells them a Halloween story. The story is about a bus full of eight kids who are killed by their parents. Macy's plan is to leave eight jack-o'-lanterns by the side of the lake as an offering to the kids who died.
The film then moves to Laurie's Halloween party where she is attacked by the masked killer, Steven Wilkins, who was previously killed by the trick-or-treaters. The film ends with Kreeg, the bus driver from the Rock Quarry story, being killed by the kids from the school bus. The film concludes with 27 people being killed, making it the new Kill Count record.
