হ্যান্সেল আর গ্রেটেল (Hansel & Gretel) - ChuChu TV Bengali Moral Stories & Fairy Tales - Summary

Summary

The story is about a little brother and sister, Hansel and Gretel, who lived with their father and stepmother in a tiny cottage at the edge of a forest. Their father was a woodcutter who didn't earn much money, and their stepmother was unkind to them, thinking they ate too much and that caring for them was too much work.

One night, their stepmother suggested to their father that they leave the children in the forest. The next day, they took Hansel and Gretel into the forest and left them there. Hansel was awake and heard everything his stepmother had said. He then snuck out of the house and picked up some shiny white pebbles to mark the path.

When they arrived deep in the heart of the forest, their father and stepmother split off to chop some wood. Hansel and Gretel were left alone in the forest. When their father and stepmother didn't return, Hansel and Gretel were scared. They followed the pebbles Hansel had dropped on the ground all the way back to their house.

A few days later, their father went to the town to repair his axe, leaving Hansel and Gretel alone in the house with their stepmother. Their stepmother ordered the children out of the house and took them to the forest for a picnic. Hansel didn't trust his stepmother and secretly snatched a loaf of bread and hid it away. As they walked into the forest, Hansel dropped breadcrumbs on the ground behind him.

Once they were deep inside the forest, their stepmother left them and didn't come back. When the sun rose, Hansel and Gretel went looking for the breadcrumbs but couldn't find them anywhere. They walked and walked through the forest, hoping to find someone who could help them.

After some time, they came across a marvelous house made of gingerbread and decorated with chocolates, gumdrops, and other sweets. They broke off big pieces of the house and started eating them. An old woman came out of the house and fed them very nicely. When they told the old woman that they wanted to go home, she laughed and said they were staying there.

By the time the children realized that the old woman was a child-eating witch, it was too late. The old witch locked Hansel up in a cage and made Gretel work for her. One morning, the witch was feeling very hungry and called out to Gretel to fill up the big pot with boiling water. Gretel, knowing the old witch didn't see well, tricked her by pushing her into the pot with all her might.

The old witch fell into the boiling water, and Gretel closed the lid. She then unlocked the cage and let Hansel out. The old witch was gone, and Hansel and Gretel found a pot full of gold coins in the witch's house. After walking for a very long time, they finally found their way out of the forest. When they reached home, their father was waiting for them. He had kicked their stepmother out of the house, and they were never short of money again. They all lived happily ever after.
