Three Houses Lore Explained (in six minutes) - Summary

Summary

The continent of Foulis, a land without gods, is introduced. A goddess, Sothis, arrives and is described as more like an alien than a god. She performs godly tasks like helping crops grow and aiding in asexual reproduction. She creates a race called the Nabataeans, who have unique characteristics like green hair and hearts made of magical stones that allow them to transform between human and dragon forms.

The Nabataeans initially coexist with the locals, the Agarthan, sharing their knowledge to create inventions like electricity and nukes. However, they become too powerful and wage war against Sothis, leading to their near extinction and the goddess falling into a deep sleep.

The Nabataeans built a holy tomb for Sothis and a city surrounding it called Xanadu. The Agarthan who survived the war became known as those who slither in the dark. They plotted revenge against Sothis by stealing her body parts to create powerful weapons and crests. One of the crests, the Crest of Flames, was given to Nemesis, a bandit leader, who used it to slaughter the entire Nabataean race.

The only survivor of the massacre was an abbot named Saros, who sought revenge. She allied herself with four other abbots known as the Four Saints and persuaded one of Nemesis' allies to betray him. They founded the Addressing Empire, marking the start of a new era.

The Addressing Empire fought against Nemesis and the Ten Elite, a group of Nemesis' strongest allies, in a war over Follan. Nemesis was eventually defeated. The Ten Elite were systematically hunted down and killed, but their descendants were offered high positions in the empire due to the value of their crests.

This led to a long-standing tradition of crest bearers being in a position of nobility, while non-crest bearers were looked down upon. The monastery of Garrick Mach was founded to spread the teachings of Sothis and rewrite history to make it seem like the rest in hero's relics were actually gifts from the goddess.

In the present, Saros attempts to revive Sothis using a combination of her blood and the Crest of Seed. The goddess now resides in a chair inside Bala's head. Geralt, a mercenary, suspects that Cerros had something to do with this and leaves the monastery to raise Violet as a mercenary.

A coup takes place in the Addressing Empire, stripping the current Emperor of most of his power. His children are taken away to undergo torturous crest experiments. The only survivor is a child named Adel, who now bears the Crest of Flames. She hates crests and intends to dismantle the current nobility system.

In the land of All Myra, a Leicester noblewoman meets and falls in love with the king, birthing a child named Claude due to his Follan heritage. Claude faces intense discrimination and vows to end racism. Years later, Claude and the girl from Geralt's dreams, Bile, enroll at the Officers Academy and are sent on a training mission.
