The story revolves around a witch named Petra who lives in a remote forest. One day, a royal messenger arrives to invite her to become the princess of the kingdom of Sotavento, following the death of the king. Initially hesitant, Petra envisions a life of luxury and power, but she soon realizes that being a princess means being confined and doing nothing.
Upon her arrival at the palace, she undergoes a transformation, losing her identity and gaining a new one as a princess. She is taught manners, grooming, and etiquette, but soon finds herself bored and longing for her previous life as a witch.
One day, while walking in the garden, she encounters a girl from the town who has sneaked into the palace. The girl, who is starving, steals some food, and Petra, moved by her plight, decides to help her. She discovers that the town is suffering from a drought, and realizes that she can use her magic to bring rain and relieve the people's suffering.
Petra decides to use her magic to help the town, turning the palace into a terrifying place and casting a spell on the Marchioness of Pitimini to be quiet. She then summons three other witches, and they fly into the sky to summon a storm. The storm brings rain to the kingdom, ending the drought and saving the town.
Petra then returns to her original life as a witch, but she decides to stay in the palace as a guardian. She plants an enchanted mushroom in a flower pot as a gift to the young man Márquez, who she hopes will free her from her spell.
