The speaker, David, discovers two portals on the side of his house. One is green and the other is yellow. He believes that these portals could lead to different worlds based on the signs on them: "Buckets Basics Bucket Box Go" on the green portal and "Chavez" on the yellow one. He believes the green portal could lead to the world of Beat Basic, a game where basic buckets chase those who get their math wrong in school. The yellow portal might lead to the world of Chavez.
David and a companion, Lusa, enter the Chavez portal and find themselves in a strange world. They meet a man named Zezo and a tree that yields the golden share. David believes the tree is a sign that the portal will take them to the world of Chavez. They then find a barrel and a square ball, which were what David was waiting for.
David and Lusa then enter the Beat Basic portal. They try to understand the language to communicate with the inhabitants. However, they find the world scary and decide to return to their own world. Upon returning, they find the Beat Basic portal missing.
David and Lusa then enter the Chavez portal again. They find themselves in a world where a man named Dona Florinda lives. They meet a witch and a skeleton in her house. David and Lusa then enter a house that belongs to Dona Florinda's daughter, who is away. They find a lamp floating in the air and decide to leave.
David and Lusa then encounter the Chavez gang. They are scared and decide to return to their own world. They find the Beat Basic portal missing again. They then enter the Chavez portal once more and find themselves in a world where math problems are used to answer questions. They manage to solve some of the problems but find themselves in a challenging situation when they encounter a complex division problem.
In the end, David and Lusa manage to solve the problem and return to their own world, leaving the Chavez world behind.
