Legenda Joko Kendil | Cerita Rakyat Jawa Tengah | Kisah Nusantara - Summary

Summary

King Asmawikana of Ngambar Arum had a consort, Prameswari, and a concubine, Dewi Dursilawati. Dewi Dursilawati was jealous of Prameswari and poisoned her food, causing two miscarriages. When Prameswari became pregnant again, the king took extra precautions to protect her. However, Dewi Dursilawati sought the help of a shaman to cast a spell on the unborn child. The child, Joko Kendil, was born with a round body like a dwarf.

Despite his physical appearance, Joko Kendil grew up to be a kind and responsible young man. He fell in love with Princess Ngapunten and wished to marry her. With the help of his adoptive mother, Mbok Rondho, Joko Kendil was able to meet the princess and win her heart.

After their marriage, Joko Kendil would often excuse himself at night, claiming to be sick. Unbeknownst to everyone, he would enter a pot in his room and transform into a handsome knight, attending the wedding celebrations.

When Princess Ngapunten discovered Joko Kendil's secret, she broke the pot, and the curse was lifted. Joko Kendil was transformed back into his true self, a handsome young man.

In the end, Joko Kendil became the new king, replacing his aging father. Dewi Dursilawati, who had been seeking revenge, was thwarted by King Asmawikana and ultimately died in the forest.
